Murray’s marriage broke down due to his addiction. Shame, guilt and his lack of self-worth meant that Murray asked for nothing in the divorce, leaving himself homeless. Murray found himself sleeping rough in the Manly area, depending on local services for food and clothing.
After a long battle with his dependency that he later won, and with the support of LocalKind, Murray gained access to temporary hotel accommodation through the local housing office before being accepted into crisis accommodation at Mission Australia.
Over time Murray has opened up about his anxiety and depression. CNB connected him with our community hub partner Lifeline Northern Beaches where he now attends weekly counselling sessions.
Through his relentless dedication and hard work to better himself, sustained from his addictions, rebuilt trust with his family and is well on his way to securing long term housing, ensuring that Murray was able to spend Christmas with the most important person in his life, his daughter.
